Can't seem to figure it out. Tony | | | | | Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 649 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2006 Posts: 649 | Your right about it being welded. In addition to being welded on the sides/ends, its also welded along the windshield opening, lots of welds!! | | | | | Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 24 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Oct 2010 Posts: 24 | Ok, If I remove it and get a repro dash. How do I put it back in? Drill many holes and MIG weld?

the major welds are along the cowl flange that makes up the windshield opening, to the top flange of the dash, which is the rest of the windshield opening, first step is taking out the windshield .... can be done, but rarely is

I guess I need to take pictures and ask what it where. It seems along the windshield is not welded but more on the sides. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2012 Posts: 35 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Apr 2012 Posts: 35 | There's a couple dozen spot welds running across the top & down sides of the dash. There are also 2 bolts on each end up under the lower corner of the dash along w/the steering column & cowl vent braces.

Now, putting it back in, what if I just use a epoxy with a couple of welds? I have used the epoxy on a couple of repair panels and it seems to work well. Suggestions? | | | | | Joined: Apr 2012 Posts: 35 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Apr 2012 Posts: 35 | I personally would weld it in. When I replaced mine years ago I used a die grinder to remove it. It'll keep the metal from distorting & will be a cleaner removal. Then used a small hand grinder to remove what was left & to clean up the old weld areas. I drilled small holes around the windshield pinch weld area so I could spot weld the inner & out lips together. I also welded it solid down both sides of dash just like stock. Clamped it all together & started tack welding it from side to side.

There is one little spot that I will have to repair. Really the truck is solid exept for the dash and floorpans. The windshield must have been leaking for years! Once the dash is out the floorpans might be easier.
