Hi everyone, I just wanted to say hi as I have viewed some of the forums, but now that I'm starting on my truck I'll probably be on here more. My name is Colin and I'm from the Edmonton area in Alberta, Canada.

I've had my 46 GMC for almost 3 years now, and I'm just getting going on it and plan to be driving it later this summer. When I bought the truck, it had several parts removed much earlier in life and was sitting in the bush for years. The suspension, all drivetrain, and some of the interior pieces had been removed. That's fine for me, as I am making a rod out of it anyways.

It's a Canadian built long box truck, but I've been unable to find VIN decoding information for a Canadian GMC, so I'm not sure if it was a 3/4 ton or a heavy half. It also has a wooden box floor and a plain tailgate, I'm wondering if the Canadian GMC's were done this way as opposed to the steel bed floor and GMC stamped tailgate the GMC's were supposed to have?

I'm excited to get this truck on the road and have fun with it, as there aren't many GMC's around, and while I know of at least 2 guys building them in Edmonton, I haven't seen another one in person, only pictures.

*L*.....give the guys a chance. GMC's are not as common as Chevys. Someone will come along with the info. you need. I've found people on this site to be both knowledgeable and helpful.

46gmcpu...I understnd your frustration but hang tight. Some of the guys that can help you may not have visted yet. I'm sure you'll find some bolters that can help and there are probably a few close around.

..also,not everyone visits here in the welcome centre so try posting questions in the most appropiate forum which will get you many views/answers.
My neighbor is working on a 50 GMC but he's not very far along and is looking for stuff as well. Good luck on yours and see ya around the garage.

My name is Valentine I live in Red Deer. I own a45 GMC CC-102.Have done original.It came from Boise Idaho. If you look on the right side of frame, at the front you should see the vin #. As for the box bed it is metal,, tailgate has old GMC on it on circle around was on earlier years.There is also a guy that has a 41 GMC outside Sylvan Lake, that I sold my gas tank to. If you have any other questions? Now that I know you are rodding it do oyou want to part with your rims as I'm in need of two or three. If so do you know what the bead width is 4" or 5".

Curt, thanks for the information, but the problem I have been having is finding the correct model numbers for Canadian built GMC trucks. It's easy to find decode information, but finding a model number sheet for the Canadian trucks is very difficult.



Valentine, thanks for the information. As your truck is from Idaho I'm guessing it's an American made truck? Mine says General Motors of Canada right on the serial number plate on the passenger's side of the cowl. I have the VIN, I just can't find decode information for Canadian GMC's.

The reason I asked about the metal bed floor and tailgate being different is that I know in those years there were sometimes a lot of differences between the Canadian and American made trucks and cars of the same model. Specifically, do you know of anyone with a Canadian made GMC in these years and if theirs had a metal or wood bed floor and what the tailgate looks like?

As I mentioned in my first post the suspension was stripped from the truck many years ago, so I don't have the wheels. In fact other than the frame, there aren't many parts I won't be using.

Thanks for the info. I do have the Scott's Super Trucks catalog, and unfortunately it doesn't have the right model number for my truck listed. I'll have a look again when I get home.

I copied my serial number down wrong... my series is 94 and my model is 24. I know it's a 3/4 ton, but does 24 mean pickup?

I think it means 248 engine

My GMC had a Chevy engine actually, all the Canadian-made GMC's did.

and now you have a 455, I bet you drive parts dept mad
when you tell them you have a 46 GMC, well sort of ..

I like to go back once in awhile and make sure folks
have gotten a response from their post, it is only right

I don't tell them what I'm working on, it causes too much confusion. I just tell them what I need.
