My truck has some sort of attachment on the outside of the bed in the first panel left side. It has a small little bracket on the top but it's hard to see how it held anything. Does anyone know what it was used for?

Some other clues to the possible use of the truck. There were 2 holes about 1/2" dia. & about 4" apart in the back of the cab on the curved part between the left door and the back glass. There are also 2 holes (filled with screws now) in the dash. Does this suggest a radio antenna in the back with a dash mounted mike?

I'm guessing the holes in the header panel was for a sun visor but I'd like to know if someone has seen these in another truck also.

probably right about the radio stuff, maybe the fire chiefs truck ... and the bed wall dealie was prolly for some kind of emergency markers, especially from the yellow paint showing

I have seen similar brackets that hold road flares/Kerosene pots in that place, they slide down into the "V" and the little latch keeps them from popping out.

The first and the last photos are of a bracket that held a stack of 3
breakdown lamps/lanterns,that were probably of the oil or kerosene style that used a wick like a Coleman Lantern.
You stacked them one on top of the other and pushed the tab on top down to lock them in place for storage.

Forgot to mention but probably not relevant the original color was blue.

It could be. I bought a '49 1/2 Deluxe 5-window a couple years back that was a Union Pacific service truck and it had one in the same location. They pop up on eBay from time to time often NOS. I have a GMC Parts Book (Light-duty) 1939-1953 that has a picture of them in the Accessories section 22.0800 it shows the vertical storage like you have (PN 2233073) and also a set in a box that would go in the cab (PN 2233294).

I don't know, but to me it looks similar to the emergency markers similar to what would be Stevie T's factory-original emergency marker bracket. Different series, but similar form/fit/function to my eye.
