My plans of updating my '57 LCF, 2 ton is.... I want to use a new 350 Goodwrench motor, Auto Trans., and use the original rear-end.
My question is....What auto. trans. would be the best to use???

Am I thinking right by using the 350, Auto. Trans., and locking the rear-end in the high side, as I'm never going to have a load on the truck. Any and all tech. help would be great!

Due to the very low rear end gear ratio in your truck and the slip of the torque converter of an automatic I would use an overdrive transmission if I were you. Your best bet would be a 4L-80 they are much like a turbo 400 but with a 4th gear overdrive. They can be found in mid 90s to present Chevy and GMC ¾ to 1tons and there are even stand alone computers for the electronic models. In my opinion you would be disappointed in the performance of your truck with t turbo 350 pushing though them low gears.

what Grant says ... the 4L80 is the OD update of the TH400, and the TH350 wouldn't hold up long on a heavy truck

You could also put in an Allison automatic.
