Curious if anyone has found a suitable replacement for the sponge seal that fits on the front of the front inner fenders.

I realize that most of the repop vendors sell them as part of anti squeak kits but...I have some nice heavy duty tar paper already that i was planning on using for the anti squeak, just need the spongy foam rubber for the front part of the inner fender.

Looking to save some $$ if i can find a suitable substitute or replacement locally.

Thanks

Maybe an upholstery shop would have some dense foam that you cut cut a groove in and make it work??? Just a thought. I'm not sure now but the kits were once fairly in-expensive???

You really are better off if you can find something that well
replace it. The felt paper in the kits is made from 15pound
still had the layout lines on some of the strips so I used
30 pound which is still not as heavy as the original anti-squeak.

The foam rubber seal is not shaped exactly like the original
seal. It's made to small and doesn't actually do a good job of
sealing. It's especially noticable around the filler plates
where the inner skirt meets the cowl.

Thanks for the replies, got an update.

Went to Lowes today to look for a substitue foam rubber seal of some sort for the front part of the front inner fender. This is what i found

Self Sealing Rubber Pipe Insulation
1/2" at $4.98 for a 6' section.

Looks like it should work perfectly, even has a sticky edge. One 6' section should be plenty for both inner fenders.

So the Heavy Duty roofing felt i found at a material recycle place was 50cents, and the $4.98 for the foam rubber brings me to a grand total of $5.58
The Anti Squeak Kit for sale on Classic Parts of America is $12.95 so i saved myself like $5 and some shipping...every penny counts eh

Ill post some pics as soon as i get around to installing it and let yall know how it works out.
