Hello!

I finally found a nice driver's side door for my '59 Apache. I have the choice of shipping it via UPS or Greyhound. Greyhound takes 10 days vs. UPS' 4, but it's about $30 cheaper.

Cost aside, does anyone here have an opinion of which is better in terms of NOT damaging the door in shipment? I've generally had good luck with UPS, but I have zero experience with Greyhound.

The door has been boxed, so there is some protection there.

Thanks...

Chris

Greyhound always says it takes 10 days, usually 3 to 4 days and you will have it.I have used greyhound several times on large parts, just tell the guy to wrap it with cardboard really good. You can call the bus station at any time to see if it has come in.You can also pick up your package late in the evening.I think you will be impressed with there service.

Greyhound has been awesome in my experience. I've had all sorts of stuff shipped including a Brown Jordan glass top patio set for eight and a full AD bench seat. While I was there last picking up the seat for my truck the guy in front of me was shipping a 70's Mustang door and couldn't praise Greyhound enough.

My issue with Greyhound is the customer service representatives manning the counter of the freight desk. I have waited 10-15 minutes and then went behind the counter and into the staging area for freight, looking for a person. I have actually had employees walk by the counter and never acknowledge a customer's presence. I had an issue one time with getting 3 of the 4 packages, that were supposed to be delivered together. When I asked them where the 4th package was, referenced on the tag, I was told there isn't a 4th package. When I asked how to file a claim for the 4th package, I was told there wasn't a 4th package, even though their paperwork, showed there was. A few days later, they called and said my package was ready to pick up.
Albeit, this was the downtown Kanssas City, MO hub.

I had two doors shipped via Greyhound from Colorado to Washington, DC. I had no problems at all. Just went to the station and picked them up.

I have had similar terrible customer services experiences with the Albany, NY Greyhound/Trailways terminal. I gave them two chances and now they will never see me again, unless someone ships something to me through them.

Every time I check, GH is the same as Fedex and it comes to my door.

If at all possible, I use Greyhound for body parts. They are handled as luggage. UPS handles the larger items as freight and get moved around with forklifts and can wind up between heavy stuff. However, I will agree that Greyhound's customer service stinks, but I just put up with it.

I said this on another post recently but here we go again.... it all depends on LOCATION. I've tried and I've tried to ship some stuff by Greyhound and they either won't ship it...or they are outrageously high.
About a month ago I tried to ship a set of 37 pickup running boards from S.C. to Pa. Greyhound wanted $75 so I went to Fed-X and shipped them for $29 to the guys front door.

..around here in my hometown, I believe Fed-X wins the race. They always give me super service and my rates are good. However, I've had some Bolters tell me that Fed-X stinks in their location. Either way I hate UPS. Half the package's I receive are damaged in some way and when they are 1 out of 4 end up in a claim.

....in the end, if it works for you them thats what I'd use.

EDIT: and yes, the service at the Greyhound station is some of the worst I've seen or put up with and I put up with it to try save a Bolter a buck. In the end I spent about 10 bucks on gas running here and running there. Fed-X for me from now on.... and if you have an account with FedX it is less expensive. A recnt package would regularly cost $38 but since I have an account it was $32....a savings I pass on to those I ship parts to. And if I can ship it to a business address its even less costly.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

UPS is getting very GREEDY. Just checked a 48 Lb package 39 X 21 X 20 Inches and they want $73.20 to go about 500 miles. I am willing to pay my share of your days gas but don't care to pay for All days gas.
