In the rubber kit that I bought for my '49, there are two rubber strips or seals that are supposed to attach to the doors. They're shaped like a long skinny triangle from a profile view and they're supposed to ride on the outside of the window glass. I think it's supposed to be the weatherstrip to help keep water that's hitting the door glass from running down inside the door. It seems from their shape that they'd slide into a channel somwhere, but I don't see anything. Can someone get a pic of their door so I can maybe see what's supposed to be going on here. Or can someone explain better where these attach. Maybe I'm missing something obvious

Yep, it rides in a channel/slot/grove/whatever just below the glass opening on the exterior side of the door.

Hmmm... I see there is a bit of a channel there, but the rubber doesn't stay in it. There's no lip or anything on the channel to keep it in there. Is something really messed up here?

There is a little metal strip as mentoned above. Take a good look at it to see if some previous owner "opened" it up pehaps to try do the same things your doing.

IF it like my 52 that little strip it goes in will have a place in the center to slide one end into the channel. Then pull it all the way to one side until the other end is in the channel and then just pull it straigth back through the channel.
Usually the new ones are a little long and you have to cut off a short piece so it fits snug end to end.

Is there any way you can get a pic of this on your truck? I'm not seeing what you're describing.

Its difficult to get a good pic in that area of the door with everything assembled.

Maybe someone with a 49 or 50 who has a door apart can get a better view of the channel

I sat the outer rubber wipe on the channel, then worked it into the channel with a wide blade screwdriver. I lubed the rubber and the channel with dishwashing liquid. There is an "inside" and an "outside" of the wipe. I forgot which is which, but it's pretty easy to tell by looking. ('54 3100)

My window and vent assembly were not in the door when I replaced the rubber wipes. May be more difficult with the window in.

Thanks DAD50....that last pic is about as good as it gets unless the door is stripped down.
The last pic DAD50 is a good one.....as I mentioned above, my 52 had a little "notch" right in the center of where that rubber strip goes. So, start sliding the rubber in right there in the middle and pull it back toward the door latch. Keep sliding it back and let the end just "slump down" at the door latch end until you can get the front end of the rubber strip in the that middle notch. Then just push it toward the front until you get it as far as you need it. If your "channel" is not booger up it should go pretty easy. I just kept spraying windex on the rubber and it worked like a charm on both my doors.....
