Can someone tell me something about this tranny? Are parts available for a rebuild? How complicated is a rebuild for an amateur?

In other words, the guts from a 54 transmission will fint in a 37 transmission case. I can't tell you about the availability of parts, but there should be some out there considering the range of years these part were used.

You can use 1940-54 gears and shafts but the spline for the u' joint is slightly different, but there are options there. 1937-39 parts are available if needed. PM me if you have trouble finding parts.

I also found the master parts book to be helpful in determining what fits between what years.
I found replacement bearings on Ebay as well as replacement gears.
Also, a 37 car transmission uses the same basic gears, except that the truck has a longer output shaft (transmission is longer to fit in the same space as a 4-speed.)
