I am starting a rolling restoration of a '37 1/2 ton. The transmission has stamped on top "C 22 7". Can someone tell me something about this tranny? Are parts available for a rebuild? How complicated is a rebuild for an amateur?

Thanks

I can tell you that the parts, mainly all of the gears and some other parts, are the same from 37 to 54. In other words, the guts from a 54 transmission will fint in a 37 transmission case.
I can't tell you about the availability of parts, but there should be some out there considering the range of years these part were used.

1937-39 have straight cut first gear, syncro drum and main shaft.
You can use 1940-54 gears and shafts but the spline for the u' joint is slightly different, but there are options there.
1937-39 parts are available if needed.
PM me if you have trouble finding parts.

They are a simple trany, but this is a good time to get a shop manual.

I've recently worked on my 37 3-speed, and would agree with the suggestion to get the shop manual. I also found the master parts book to be helpful in determining what fits between what years.

I found replacement bearings on Ebay as well as replacement gears.

Also, a 37 car transmission uses the same basic gears, except that the truck has a longer output shaft (transmission is longer to fit in the same space as a 4-speed.)

Can you still call it a barn find if it's your barn?
