I have a 51 chevy truck with a VIN starting with 5JPJ

that makes it a california built half ton short bed from october of 1951

First question:
because it was built in October of 1951 , does that make it a 1951 model year or a 1952 model year.

next question:
would it have come with turn handle door handles or push button door handles.

next question:

whats the deal with 51 doors? are they unique because they come with both turn handles and vent windows.

Can I install 51-54 factory vent windows into a 47-50 door and use them on my 51?

reproduction doors are listed as 47-50 and 52-54.

Next question:
is there a significant difference between these two sets of doors that prevent me from using a reproduction 47-50 door and a 51-54 vent window and installing it on my 51 cab?

The Vehicle Number code indicates that Chevrolet considered it to be a 1951 model 3100 truck

Unless the factory had changed over to the vent-window/push-button handle because the 1951-style door had run out, it would have the 1951 vent-window/pull-down handle.

Yes, they are unique for that year, with the feature you describe.

reproduction doors are listed as 47-50 and 52-54.
Someone else who has done this or who has tried this will have to answer this one.

Use a matching latch and catch and either type of door should work.

The answer to this question is NO, unless you have advanced sheet metal fabrication skills.

...I've seen a kit offered to convert the full window to a window with vent. Can't remember who but a bolter posted it here not long ago.

The "general consenus" is it is soooo much better to find a nice set of doors and just switch them, use matching latches and save yourself some headaches.

Over the past couple years I've read here where two guys that want the opposite of what they have would get together and swap doors. It may be worth a try to make a post to that effect???

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile
