I have a 55 1st series with a 261. There is a flex fan installed. I do not like the noise from the fan. I want to remove the flex fan and install an electric fan. The problem is there is about 1 3/4 inch clearance between the the radiator and the water pump puller on the back side of the radiator. On the front of the radiator there is a set of cross rods on the radiator support that will interfer with mounting an electric fan. Looking for some ideas.

don't know if you can do this with that year but some ppl just move the radiator to the front side of the mounting area not familiar enough with the 55s though to say if that would work

You can use a 16" "pusher" electric fan that will mount to the front of the radistor and push the air through. if you run a search on the net you will find a bunch of info in this. Hope this helps.

Make a short shroud out of sheet metal with a few slots in it to allow the X brace rods to go through it, and mount the electric fan ahead of the shroud. It should be a pretty simple fabrication job with no fancy curves or brackets to make.
