1952-3100. Does anyone know the name of the part that is directly on the other end of the emergency brake cable, opposite the drum end? I am looking for the part at the adjustment end of the cable. It (they) go on the end of the "horizontal bar" right behind the cab, outside of the frame rails. Mine are missing and I will have to ask for them on the parts wanted forum since they don't appear in any of my parts catalogs. Just wondered what was the correct name?

Don't know for sure but I would call them the Cross Shaft Cable Actuating Levers.

1952 3100.

The new emergency brake cable that I bought won't install through the bracket that is attached to the frame. The bracket with the pinch bolt. It's up by the adjustment end. A large jam nut makes the cable too wide to slide through the bracket. On the drum side of the cable, the crimped on bracket that has 2 bolts into the backing plate prevents that end from sliding through. Anyone ever had this problem? I guess the only way to fix it is to undo the crimped bracket-which I hate to do- slide the cable in place and re-crimp the bracket on the drum side. Any other suggestions. (I'm never gonna make the Charlotte, NC auction/show mid April)

Not sure if I understand all the issues you are having. I bought new e-brake cables for my 1952 and didn't have any issues. I recall having to first insert the cable into the backing plate. I seem to recall having to insert it from the wrong direction and twist it around into place.

On the other end, before you hook the cable to the parking brake mechanism in the drum, pull the slack from the cable and slip it thru the slot in the bracket with the pinch bolt. Pretty much like you would do with a motorcycle clutch or brake cable. On my truck I had to take a big screwdriver and open the bracket a little for the new cable housing to slip into it. Initially I didn't tighten the pinch bolt up enough and the cable slipped. Since re-tightening all is well.

Hope this helps and that you have the right part. Don't give up until you try other angles to get it into the drum.

Had to the same as Chuck on my 52-3100,thread the adjustable end thru the backing plate and install the two bolts than make the adjustable end bigger with a screw driver slip that in and tighten.

I ended up taking a grinder to the adjusting end of the cable. Did it on the nut looking "cap" at the end of the rubber/plastic shield part of the cable housing. If that makes any sence. Guess I could've also just reamed out the bracket with the pinch bolt a little. Probably just 60 years of paint and dirt made the cable housing too big to go through. All is well, thanks.

I had the same problem with the frame bracket. I reamed out the old paint and rust to slide the new cable through and now it won't tighten down on the cable. Anyone have any suggestions? Could I wrap the cable with something to make it fit tight?

oldchevytrucks, prehaps get a bushing from Ace Hardware, the simply thing to do, and cut/split it in half to help take up some room. It should then tighten up and hold the cable in place. That way you don't run the risk of tightening the existing one till it breaks!..... just a thought.

Great idea Achipmunk! I'll stop by the store and get a pair. Does the protective cable cover go all of the way through the clamp or line up with the end of it? The metal end on the outer cable will still fit tight if I line it up. Anyone have any pics?

I THINK the original ones do stick just past the bracket but not sure..... I ended up having to buy new ones. I'll stop here before I go off on a rant about overseas stuff!
