The 205 refers to tread width in millimeters. The 75 refers to side wall height, 75% of tread width. So the 215/70 will be a little bit taller.

I am not sure what you are looking for, but Les Schwab has 7.00-15 tires that are 29" and a bit tall. But you have to go the store and ask for them, as they are not on the website. They seem to be a very good tire. It is the only tire they have in that size so its hard to mix them up. And they look good on the old trucks.I posted a picture under (UPDATE 15" wheels) in general truck talk not too long ago, I would repost the picture but I don't know how. I looked back and the posting for the picture was 1-29-12, if you want to look at them.

I've got 215/85/16s Ironman tires on my 52-3100 and am very happy with them.

The 215/70 will be a little wider, not taller. The overall hight will be pretty close to the same, within a tenth of an inch or so.

thumbs_up the tire sizes are 205/75 which is 153.75 tall and 215/70 which is 150.50 tall, I get 3.25 mm difference, times two?, for a total of less than 1/2" difference between them for total height but the narrow tire would be the tallest. I hate the metric system! grin

Caution mounting too wde of tires on old 5 & 5 1/2 wheels. These will break over time if tire is too wide for wheel. Many tire sites will list (tirerack.com) desired wheel width for a given tire.

Converted to Standard, the 205/75 has an 8.1" dection width, and a 27.1" diameter. The 215/70 has an 8.5" section width, and a 26.9" diameter, so there's only .2" difference in hight, but .4" differnce in width, with, as you mention, the wider tire being shorter.
That can even vary depanding on manufacturer and what model tire it is. The sizes are really a nominal size, with rim diameter being the only true constant. To get the actual dimensions, you really need to check the manufacturers specification.
