Well i broke down and spent some dough on a nice Offy polished valve cover this past week. Now i need to know what else do i need for install, it came w/ the stud kit but do i need some kind of seals in the top two holes where the studs run through? I've got a new cover gasket and new acorn nuts for the studs too. This is going on our 1959 Chev apache truck, it has a 261 w/ a 235 head. I've also read that sometime a clearance issue w/ the thermostat housing can cause issues so i have a spacer ready if needed to bring the housing out and away from the cover if needed. Thanks for any information from any one that has been down this road.

The studs replace the existing bolts on the rocker assembly. Remove bolts one at a time, torque the studs down per your shop manual then intall the fine valve cover!

I've got the stud thing figured out, i'm curious about the holes coming throught the top of cover....do these require a "seal"? Info appreciated big time!!

These grommets might work. If in doubt, call them - they also sell the Offy valve cover.

I have a Wayne valve cover and it came with the rubber grommets Tim posted a link to.I would think the offenhauser would use them as well.

Look in the box the gasket came in, if it a felpro there might be 2 grommets in it.

the cover gasket for my 235 came with them felpro FEL-PRO Part # VS50189C

I bought the offenhouser valve cover in the late 70 straight from Offy. It came with the same stud kit and the "seals" that they sent were nothing more than cut off sections of a runner fuel line that went over the studs and fit fairly tight in the holes of valve cover. It did come with the instructions there may be a clearance issue with the thermostat housing and they suggested using an extra gasket if needed.

Thanks DADS50....the grommets were in with the gasket(Felpro)and i'm in business!! I think this cover will really dress up the engine.

if im not mistaken, isnt the 216 engine the one with the 2 studs in the top and the 235 has the valve cover bolts around it?

All 216 engines and all 235 engines through 1953 used the 2-bolt valve covers.

And, it is quite easy to adapt the later 235 heads (and all 261 heads) to work with the two-bolt valve cover: adapter kit.

The photo I linked to above is of my 1954 261 engine.I used the stud kit so I could use the Wayne valve cover.I could even use a 216 valve cover if I want to.
