I used wire wheels attached to a drill to get most of the rust... I did not have the $$$ or access to a sand blaster... Hard to get place like under the dash I used wire brush and steel wool... They can generate enough heat to warp the metal if held in one spot too long. A slower orbital sander would be better to use.

The cab must be completly striped of all the inside and outside parts switches, gauges,door handles, window frames etc..
The cab will come out really clean to bare metal and will have all the Rust Body filler or visiual holes from where the rust used to be if there is any. Then you can coat it with a rust preventive material until you get to the body work if need be.

When you say rust preventative material, are you talking about shooting some primer on it, or some other coating? Would it be something like Rust Mort? I have only had experience with small parts and clean and paint generally the same day.

The mag is available at Barnes and Noble among other book stores.
