The hole in the lever is so elongated, the linkage rod is about to pull through it. This seems to be a very common part to go bad. I found a pretty good one by luck in a junkyard and I'm going to order a new offset rod and linkage rod. It doesn't look like a complicated repair, but is there a certain sequence or trick to make this go smooth? | | |

I am going change the Hydramatic for standard shift soon on my '54 GMC (exactly the same as on a Chevrolet). It would be a good idea to change the throwout bearing while it's apart, they wear out too. | | |

Offset rod may not be too bad. I thought by simply moving the nuts on the offset rod, this would allow the linkage rod to be removed from the offset rod and allow easy replacement of the lever and the link. | | |

Reinstall in the same manner. If the releae arm is worn out you have to remove the trans as chevyman32 suggested.
