I have a 49 1/2 ton with tube shocks. When I look around for replacement shocks all I find is shocks down to 1950. Can I assume that these shocks will fit my 49 or do i need to take mine off and carry them with me to find something that will work.

Stock, I believe 1949 was the last year of lever shocks. You might just want to bring what you've got to the FLAPS.

In fact, 49 was last year for lever shocks. Tube came on 50.

There are and have been kits to convert the lever action shocks to the aircraft type for some time. I guess yours have been converted. I would have to think the best shocks for your truck would be the 1950 and later shocks. Presumably the mounts are in the right place, and if they are, I would not hesitate to put those 1950 and later shocks on.

If you have a 1949 with tube shocks, there are three reasons: someone converted to tube shocks from knee action shocks or you have a 1950 or newer frame and finally you don't have a 1949 at all, but a 1950 or newer. Knee action shocks were standard on 1947-1950 chevrolet trucks and 1947-1951? GMC trucks

You may have to remove your shock and take it in the auto store to get the exact replacement.

I believe that should read 1947-1949 Chevy trucks as the 1950's did have tube shocks as you noted earlier.
