I recently purchased a new rubber headliner retainer for my 1959 Apache and it seems that the rubber retainer is much larger and heavier duty than the retainer that I remember removing years ago.

I'm posting s few pictures to see if anyone else has had the same experience. The headliner retainer that I purchased seems to weigh a few pounds and is extremely difficult to put in.

Did mine last summer, What a BIOTCH!!!
Tried using dish soap to lube it up, didn't work.
Finally my wife and I got it in by lubing it up with petroleum jelly (Vaseline), and lots of cuss words.
Probably the worst part of the whole body off resto!
BTW, my retainer came from Classic Parts, maybe someone makes one that's easier to install?

i could have written the same post as durwoods. I bought it from CLassic, and did mine this past summer. I, too, consider this the worst task i undertook as well. it was hot in the cab that day and i struggled for 8 hours with it... i ended up hot, tired, and dirty.

still no tips on how to replace liner do you put rubber in first

but, yes, the rubber goes in the roof first (round/bead side in), then the headliner is put up and the lip is pulled outside of it to hold it up. the rubber shown is exactly like the one i installed. it will go in with some lubricant (i used dish soap), something dull to push it in, and perseverance. there is no easy way to do it.
