I have a "49 Chevy 4400. Is the front hood emblem the same as the ones used on the 1/2 and 1 ton pick-up?

Bruce is correct regarding there being at least two sizes of emblems. In the Master Parts Book there are three different part numbers for 47-53 front emblems.

The MPB lists:
#1 for COMM (Commercial 1/2 ton through 1 ton)?
#2 for D-D (Dubl-Duti, Forward-Control Chassis - used for non-GM Step Van) and UTIL (1.5 and 2 ton trucks)
#3 for COE

The 1954 COE emblem was mounted an on special base, as is the earlier emblem on a COE.

Step Van - built on Dubli-Duti chassis

Anyone happen to have one for a 4400. A pecan limb fell out of a tree and broke mine.

For whatever it's worth, I never even thought about asking this question when I restored my '49 4400 and I just bought a repro hood emblem from American Classic (probably the same one Jim carter and the others have, too). It bolted right on and looked identical to the rusty dented one I removed from the hood.

Here's some pictures of mine -- scroll down through it until you get to the shots of the finished hood.

That's the same hood emblem everyone else orders for their little trucks and it appears to be a form/fit/function replacement. I can't speak to exact correctness or part numbers, though. All I can do is tell you it fit the hood seam and the bolt holes perfectly.

John, I had gotten down to the point of hitting the pay now button to order one from American Classic but, decided to check here first. If yours fit, that may be the way I go.

Did you use the same piece on the hood seam. If not, where did you get a new one?

Go ahead and order it -- if for some strange reason it doesn't fit, they'll take it back.

On the hood seam, I didn't need to replace mine. If you need to replace yours, you'll need to find one from another hood, probably. They aren't available as replacement parts. A decent used hood (or just the seam piece) for an AD big bolt shouldn't be too hard to find -- put an ad in the Parts Wanted section and maybe one of the Western gang will send you one from their vast supply of pristine parts trucks they have out there

If you have a hard time finding one, you can always come up here for the Stovebolt Homecoming and have the one on the Stovebolt HQ driveway ornament -- it may still be useable ...
