I've got a floor shift 3-speed transmission with the casting number 590715. Supposedly came out of a 1946 Chevy truck, however it doesn't match what's shown in the shop manual--it's a lot beefier in shape and weight. Did Chevy offer a heavy duty 3-speed?

Are you sure its a 3 speed or is it a 4 speed and you just haven't found reverse. A picture would help a lot.

Here's a link to a photo. It's a 3-speed, top left shift position is reverse. I found some additional info on the VCCA site that these were leftover 1933-36 Chevy transmissions used after the war in 1946.

That could very well be what it is. I don't have a book that shows casting numbers of the 30's.

That transmission was used in GMC's from 1935 to 1936. Don't know what the application was for Chevrolets.

That is what I would call a 1932-36 truck, or 34-36 pass transmission. 1932-33 pass is the same except it had a free wheeling housing on the rear.
