For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 90 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 90 | I've got a floor shift 3-speed transmission with the casting number 590715. Supposedly came out of a 1946 Chevy truck, however it doesn't match what's shown in the shop manual--it's a lot beefier in shape and weight. Did Chevy offer a heavy duty 3-speed?

A picture would help a lot. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 90 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jun 2000 Posts: 90 | Here's a link to a photo. It's a 3-speed, top left shift position is reverse. I found some additional info on the VCCA site that these were leftover 1933-36 Chevy transmissions used after the war in 1946. 1946 Chevy Transmission

I don't have a book that shows casting numbers of the 30's. | | | | | Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 315 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2003 Posts: 315 | That transmission was used in GMC's from 1935 to 1936. Don't know what the application was for Chevrolets. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2001 Posts: 5,337 | That is what I would call a 1932-36 truck, or 34-36 pass transmission. 1932-33 pass is the same except it had a free wheeling housing on the rear.
