I'm getting ready to purchase the wiring harness for my 1949 chevy one ton pickup. Has anyone bought one from jim carter, or classic parts? If so how did you like it. Thanks, Terry

I purchased one from Classic Parts for about $180 for my 1952 1/2 ton. I was very pleased with it. If you even know the names of the items that get wired almost anyone should be able to wire a vehicle with it. All the wires are clearly marked with numbers corresponding to the location they go. I have wired a lot of vehicles, mostly race vehicles, in the past and I am pretty particular about the length and run of the wires. Other than using thicker wire there is not much I would change if I was doing this from scratch. Every wire was the correct length and had a proper terminal. I purchased the harness for turn signals. Everything worked perfectly, even the turn signals the truck never had before. If I was re-doing another truck I would purchase one of these again.

I should mention that the wiring harness doesn't have any grounds. It relies on the original metal to metal grounds. In my application I painted everything, even when it was bare from the factory. I planned ahead and preserved bare spots for grounds for every light and most other locations as well. I think that is the main reason everything worked perfectly right off the bat.

I looked at all the wiring companies but could not find a harness that suited my truck without other uneeded connections. I decided that I would do my own and frankly it is quite easy on a stock AD truck. Using the wiring schematic in the shop manual I replicated the wires. I just did one wire at a time, removing, duplicating and replacing. A good crimping tool is a necessity. My truck is 12 volt and I used the wire gauge on the schematic which is more than adequate.

Anyone have pictures on the completion of a Classic Parts wire harness installation? I am just trying to gather visuals to determine if I will go that route or try to do it DIY with cloth UL listed wire. I have spent about a grand from Classic Parts since my 53 3100 arrived on 12/26/11 and I must say that I have been impressed with their timely processing, delivery, price and more importantly quality of every single piece.

I just installed my new 'Premium' chrome bumpers yesterday and rebuilt my Rochester B carb completely. Between that and replacing all of the ground straps, battery cables and going to a Optima 6V battery, the 53 (original 216) is finally idling like a champ. The float level was way high and allowing the engine to run extremely rich. The accelerator pump was also sticking leading to hesitation and poor performance.

In any case, I digress. I am sure that I will be pleased with the harness from CP, just wanted to see some before and after photos. Thanks everyone!
