Changing points. The new set from NAPA came with an extra unattached curved silver metal spring. Old points didn't have this extra spring. Is it necessary?? Where would it go? Thanks

Here is a set with one spring, I think.

All the ones that I have used on 216/235/261 engines have a thin contact-spring and a thicker spring (two pieces) that went around it. It looks like one-piece contact/spring points-units are now available.

Thanks for the reply Gabster.The contact set base is just like the one you showed (which is like the one I took out) with one spring but it came with the extra spring to clip in like the second pic you showed. NAPA part # is CS763P Should both be used?

The NAPA website only shows one spring for that set of points.

I'd use the parts that came in the box.

The spring spoons the brass strap.
If you do not use the extra spring the brass strap will not put enough tension on the points and they will float.

Like dave says the brass is just for elec contact the silver peice is the spring use both.
