For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2011 Posts: 99 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2011 Posts: 99 | My newly acquired 53 COE has a seat frame, in accordance with the shop manual, but not the seat and back cushions, which appear to be separate pieces. Can anybody tell me where I might be able to find replacements? Thanks in advance. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 Bubba - Curmudgeon | | Bubba - Curmudgeon Joined: Sep 2001 Posts: 29,270 | Post a Want Ad in the Swap Meet.
You might want to state GMC or Chevrolet (they might not be the same - they are not the same between GMC and Chevrolet in 1954/55).

Only the seat frame is slightly different. | | | | | Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 1,571 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Apr 2002 Posts: 1,571 | My '54 GMC COE has a rather odd seat that appears to use the same full-width back as the standard-cab trucks, but has two separate bucket-style cushions on each side of the engine hump.

You'll notice the '47-'54 GMC COE's have the two separate seat cushions because the shifter comes straight up through the floor from the transmission. The '47-'54 Chevy COE's use the full width bottom with a special linkage assembly, that comes up through the floor then turns towards the front, & out from under the seat (seat frame made different at this point) to a special short shifter attached to the center engine cover panel. This engine cover panel, is the only hump, that is in any Chevy, or GMC COE, & it's out in front of the tranny. The area over the transmission, on both Chevy, & GMC COE's is flat, & below, the driver, & passenger. | | |
