While at the Good Guys car show I always look at the Stovebolts. I came across one that had a radiator with a brass top. I asked the owner about it, he stated it is the original.

I went home, popped the hood on Helen (55 1st series) took a piece of fine sand paper and started carefully sanding the black paint off.. Yeah baby its brass. Paint stripper and brass polish for Christmas..

I bet that looks pretty cool.
The black paint helps dissipate the heat as well as helps against corrosion.
I wouldn't think it would be too much of a problem though.

Radiators are painted with a special paint that wont hamper heat transfer,regular paint sort of insulates them. Most of the time its not a big deal but this is a fact.

I'm going to check mine tonight. I'll bet it will look great with a light coat of clear coat on it.
