The Stovebolt Site Forums The Parking Lot Big Bolts Need to I.D. the year

A friend of mine aquired this pre-war GMC 1 1/2 or 2 ton truck. He says it was used to haul coal from a rail depot to the homestead. He bought it from an estate to save it from the crusher. He would like all the info he can get. I will probably get more info from him also and post it for sale in the near future. Most importantly, I would like to know what year it is,

Seeing how it has the smaller pickup style bumper, i'd say '41, or '42 model.

Do these the one piece parking lights? Aren't they unique to the 1941?

That's definatly a war year truck which would be 42-45.
Very similar to my truck. The 42-45 trucks had a painted grille & the hood spears were black with white letters.
Mine is a 45, it's a 400 series truck, which is a 2&1/2 ton with the heavy channel bumper in front.
Yours looks like it might be a 300 series truck, where it has the smaller bumper.
Also, the door lock cylinder on a 41 was in the handle. 42-46 had the lock cylinder in the door, just below the handle.
It looks to be in great shape! Nice find!

I agree with JeffL. Does the truck have a data plate/VIN tag? You can tell the year from that, as well as where it was made.

If die cast sides on the parking lights, longer, skinnier glass lenses, '41, however, could have been sold later. Glass lenses same as '41 Pontiac, only plastic repacements available.
