I'm trying to decide whether to go with the medium brown or black headliner and side panels that Jim Carter's offers for the interior of my truck. I have the inside painted pecan brown (1 tone currently) My seats will be about the same color as the exterior of my truck and should be done within the next week. Does anybody have some pics of the different cardboard headliners? Incidentally Weeds, I've already been through your pictures. That's about all I've seen so far or could find.

pplummer,

I still have the original headliner in my '51 burb. It is in reasonably good shape. I could drive it over, or you are welcome to come by and take a look.

I really want to see your Suburban. thumbs_up

....Kurt, when you "drive it over" that would make a good time for a "mini gabfest". With the others around your area I'd even be tempted to drive up and take a look to!! Now when did you say you were having a "reunion" smile

It is tough enough getting those cheap cardboard replacement headliners to fit the pickups that only have one headliner bow.

Goog luck trying to fit the replacement cardboard liners to the 5 bows in the burb roof.
Even if you were able to pull it off with no gaps you would still have to deal with cardboard that dries out or absorbs moisture, gets brittle, sags and falls down with age.

I opted for the time tested leather option using the original bows on my burb.

I decided to have my interior guy take a stab at it using modern materials as well. I don't mind the original look of cardboard, but they all look like crap after a year, so I decided to have them all covered with material.

It was a couple of 2X12's screwed together and braced on the bottom so I could screw a set of wheels on it. Pretty Basic honestly. I wanted pneumatic tires since I was going from Gravel to a concrete pad, but they were a pain. I'd just stick with hard casters from Northern tool or something like that.

The bare roof was shot with rubberized undercoating & then we layered on the aluminum radiant barrier insulation on top of that.
http://www.raflect.com/
Then we welded the headliner bows in.
The upholstery guy did the rest of the magic.

Hope I don't get in trouble for posting a link to a site that sells the insulation, here in the burb section where no selling is allowed.

I would like to post more pictures of all 3 of my burbs but I have noticed a few guys getting beat up for posting pictures on this site. Since I am kind of new here I don't want to upset anyone by providing too much visual information.

Your fine, you are not selling, but directing us to a product that is sold by a supplier.
If you use linked photos, like photo bucket, image shack, etc your fine.I'm sure everyone here would like to see your suburbans and fine workmanship.

I have seen some suburbans with the extra dome light in the rear poking through the headliner as it looked as if it were factory.

Thanks,Tim

I didn't say it was factory,it looked factory the way they did it.
I edited the above statement.

Thanks,Tim

I recently installed the 5-piece brown cardboard set with a brown painted interior in my 48 burb. The pre-cut panels were too short width-wise right out of the box. I had to splice in some small pieces behind the panels to span the distance. I notice that they have shrunk a little more now that they have evaporated off the ammonia/water mixture used to install them and the garage is winter cold. I used the 2 cross braces per section that span length-wise between the crossbows of the middle 3 panels as the anchoring points to glue the cardboard with weatherstrip adhesive to try to prevent sagging. All in all,the finished product looks presentable but not outstanding. I have to remind myself that factory fit and finish wasn't perfect 63 years ago either! Dave

Achipmunk,

I would love to host or participate in a "mini gabfest" in the Raleigh area. Just need to find other stove bolters somehow.

Any suggestions?

Not trying to highjack this thread, but we do have a place to do this already:

That's why we have THIS Post your request here and see who wants to join in. Looks like someone in NORTH CAROLINA is already attempting to do this. The Canadians use this all of the time and have very successful results.
