Is there any website where i can find GM driveshaft lengths? Or do i have to go to autowreckers with a tape measure and blow a whole day and probably not find one i am looking for? :mad: I want to try and get one the right length so i don't have to pay $50 to get it shortened. The one i need is 69 1/2" from the tip of the yolk to the middle of the universal joint on the other end. It needs to have the 73-87 gm truck/S10 truck spline/chery full size cars from the 80's spline? a standard spline i do belive. It will be goin in my 1962 chev truck. Thanks! I realize i will probably have to get a different universal joint for the back, that is no problem.

PJ - I think 90% of the people out there have a driveshaft made for their application.

A Hollander Manual has driveshaft info that you need, but it's not organized the way you want it so you will have to go brand by brand and make up your own spreadsheet. Even then you will need to replace the yoke(s) for you application.

I'm one of the 10% that goes to the junkyard with a tape. One place here in CT. has a 40 foot trailer full of hanging shafts. Still a daunting task to find one, then you may need crossover u joints to hanlde your spline issues. Not only will you need to measure lenght, U joints have different dia cups and lenghts between the ends of the cups. I go armed with a listing of available cross over joints from NAPA. Shafts start at $35. If you know someone who will shorten and balance yours for $50, that may be the way to go.

Just a couple of comments, the driveline is one of the prime movers in a vehicle. If you find one in the wrecking/junkyard, is it still balanced or were the weights knocked off? is it straight enough that it can be balanced? If you don't know then you will probably have to get this done anyway along with new universal joints etc. If you can get your present driveshaft shortened and balanced that cheap I would do it. This will go a long way toward reducing vibration and lengthening universal joint life.

What exactly are you doing that may need a different length of shaft? I swapped my 3 speed manual for a t350 auto in my '63 and all I had to do was find a front yoke that had the fine splines, the u-joint was the same size and the driveshaft was the right length. Earlier model driveshaft (mine) with a later model yoke (fine spline). I found the trannies were both the same length, atleast with-in less than an inch. So for me it was an easy swap.

Yep! $50 sounds good to me too. I took the one in from my 54 2-ton (2pc) to have joints done, balanced and new mid-bearing to the tune of $270 ready to install, Gulp! Besides, how much for another used shaft, that only "May" work and probly needs joints replaced too?
