I have a pair of rear AD bumper braces I would like to list on the Stovebolt.I know there is a difference between the 1/2 and 3/4 ton.
So how can I tell which is which?

Are you sure there is a difference? If so, it is probable that you couldn't tell them apart unless you had both side by side. For the most part 1/2 and 3/4 ton trucks had the same parts. I have a set out in the garage and I can't find any numbers on mine. They might or might not be originals, I picked them up at a yard sale of all places.

The 3/4 ton rear brackets are 2" in height and the 1/2 tons are about a quarter inch or so shorter in height.
They are different shapes because of the difference in frame width between the two models. 3/4 ton frame is narrower.

Thank you Ghostrider.
These measure 1 3/4" across the flat side of the bars so must be 1/2 ton as would be most common.

Thank you.

I have a set of rear bumper braces and they do not fit on my 1/2 ton. I was told there is a difference between the 1/2 ton and 3/4-1 ton rear bumper braces. When I brought this up others say bologne.

Thank you

Dennis,

I'd say (and the Master Parts Books says) those other people are full of baloney: for all A-D years, the bumper brackets are differ for 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks (7.836, below).

PICTURES Hard to see the differences, but they do not interchange according to Jim carter.

Maybe they're panel or burb braces.

I have a question since I can't make heads or tails out of the above page.
Since the rears are different from 1/2ton to 3/4-1ton does the same go for the front bumper brackets also????joe

According to Jim Carter, they are the same: Bumper Braces Front 1947-Early 1955 1/2, 3/4, and 1 Ton

Unless I am reading the Master Parts book incorrectly (quite possible), it looks like the 47-53 1/2 ton and 3/4 bumper brackets are the same on the front and the 1-ton is different (7.836). Also, the 1954 front brackets look to be different from earlier front bracket??
