The previous owner of the truck I'm restoring never hooked up the e brake. I think the main reason was that the rear end had been changed out to a 12 bolt and they just never fooled with the ebrake hook up. I was wondering if anyone else has installed a custom e brake in thier AD truck and what did you use? The original e brake that was on the truck was all rusted up. But I was thinking about cleaning it up and trying to modify it so I would have a working e brake on the truck. The engine and tranny have been changed out also, the engine is a sb 400 and tranny is a th350. Thanks for any help and advice.

...I have NOT hooked mine up yet but this is what I plan to do.
I'm going to have bucket seats in my panel. I have a small E-brake handle out of a Colt car I plan to put beside the driver seat. Reason is that I can run a cable straight down the side of the driveshaft and hook it to the cross bar where the old rod hooked to and it'll be almost a straight shot to the e-brake handle. I suppose one from a nizzan or honda ect ect would work if it was one that fit between the seats. I plan to mount mine to the metal seat riser and then straight down through the floor and back. I'll have a couple "eyes" for it to run through to prevent it from ever coming in contact with the driveshaft.

Just giving you ideas as I do not know if what I plan will work but I see no reason why not and its simple since everything else is in place.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile

thanks Alvin for the help and advice. I think I have it figured out now. Here is what I will do, I will picked up a Lokar brake cable kit part# EC-8004U 42-54 brake cable kit. This kit will run from the brake drum to the ebrake bar. the good thing about the kit is that you cut it to fit and the kit is made of good heavy duty parts and will work with my brake set up. I then will pick up a stainless steel parking brake rod kit that will run from my original parking brake set up to the brake bar. I have sand blasted my original e brake parts and painted them. So the e brake set up will be basically like the orignal way but with some updated parts. I will have to find a place to hook the return spring that comes from the back of the parking brake bar some where, haven't figured that one out yet.
