The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area The Electrical Bay Speedometer Woes

Hi guys!
For my '59 half ton project, I got my sweet new speedo face, face gaskets and a new needle to replace my broken one.
Parts are cleaned-up painted and everything ready for reassembly...
then... as I am trying to pull the old needle, the needle pops off... along with a portion of the stem!
So now what? Can I repair or replace the stem or do I have to buy a speedometer unit?
Suggestions please?

I did the same thing on my 1950. The pin is delicate and to the best of my knowledge you need to replace it now. Those needles get coroded and stuck on tight, but then break easy. I recently started a thread about which company has better quality speedos because I am looking too. What I have found, atleast for the AD trucks, is that you can buy just the guts of the speedo and save a bunch of money using you old housing. Someone with a truck like yours can chime in.

For the 50 I have found the speedo guts for $110-150.

I posted another thread looking for help and a buddy chimed in.
Long story short, my speedometer is now complete and looks great. I was even able to use the donor speedometer needle and put my unopened new one for sale on Ebay.
This site has been a tremendous help to my on-going truck project.
