I have acquired a saginaw 3 spd overdrive transmission...I don't know what it came from. ( A chevy I would imagine) I don't think it really matters.I intend to dissasemble it to see if it is alright internally. My question???/ Has anyone done this swap or should I not even consider it? I realize these aren't the strongest transmissions but I don't intend to do any real heavy hauling with my 3/4 ton anyhow. Just looking for a little better milage. Thx for any help or info anyone can provide. Chris

Have a read through this thread? Do you have a 4 bolt side cover or a seven bolt? There were two different versions for this tranny. Actually they are pretty tough transmissions. The only thing that is getting a bit hard to find is the electric solenoid and governor switch for them. I have the seven bolt later tranny with synchro first and think it was my best addition to my GMC with 305E V6.

I wouldn't be concerned about the strength, the main transmission is the same as the base transmisson used in the 3/4 tons. It also saw use behind the FI 283s, 327s, and Big Blocks.
