| | | | Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 32 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Aug 2011 Posts: 32 | I"ve just recently ordered a chrome side cover and gasket from Ecklers and the gasket seems awfully thin to me. It is a Victor Reinz cork but very thin.
Should I try and find a thicker gasket or is this one probably sufficient?

I Glue it too the cover & let it dry good so it wont shift while you are putting it in. Then put a light coat of RTV along the lower edge & tighten it up evenly.

Is it OK to use High Tack to get it stuck to the side pan and then switch to RTV? BTW do you like the blue or red RTV better?

With that new cover you should not have a problem. The red RTV is for higher temps. But I use a lot of the black on detailed stuff as it looks better if it oozes out.

Mine were so smooth and slick, they leaked all the time, I gave up and went back to stock covers.

Getting kinda excited at this point cause after I reinstall the side cover, plug wires, coil and carb, I can find out if my rebuild job on the Rochester was correct. Then it's back in the garage until after the Wiffy's hip replacement surgery next week.
