Will buy a new timing light tomorrow (mine bit the dust)--does not backfire. Any suggestions?

Should be able to take the distr cap off and apply suction to the the vac adv and see the arm move. Another check is to gain RPMs very slowly using only the centrifugal advance, if that fails check to see if you can move the weights on the centrifugal advance.
