Finally Id the motor it's a 292 six between 63/72. I know nothing about these motors except that I read they were built for the trucks and had a taller deck... So please chime in as to weather its worth working on or switch to a SBC. I dig the looks of the inliner, but is it going to be trouble. Wanting to build a driver.... thanks Also how do I ID the trans?

I only had experience with the 292 back in the 60's but I liked it. If you want inline I'd think it'd do the job.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.

Very good engines, I have one in my '59 Big Bolt that I've owned for six years. They have great torque, I have hauled several loads of rock over four tons, and many loads over three tons. It's also very dependable, I can let it sit 5 or 6 months and it'll fire right up.

Go to Inliners (Inliners.org) and you will find out that they can also produce a lot of horsepower as well, and are very desirable. When it comes to parts, stock and high performance parts are plentiful.

When I no longer need my '59 Big Bolt, the 292 is staying with me.

I used to work on a large fleet of them. They are almost indestructable. The only big problem we had was exhaust manifolds. The exhaust runs hot on them when they are working hard. They warp & crack. Most parts from the 250 work on them.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.
