Has anyone had to buy one of these windshields and what are prices like for them. Are they easy to find? I just had a stone chip repair done on mine on the drivers side near where it curves to the pillar. The shop that did the work (it was the owner) said there could be a 5% chance it would not work and said I was lucky it was not on the curve . Fortunately it looks good and the 1/2 inch crack has disappeared.

Windshields are available new. When my '62 needed a windshield about 4 years ago I was quoted $700 installed at a local glass shop and that included the windshield ($500), gasket and labor. I couldn't see paying that so I found a junkyard windshield and bought a new gasket from Steele Rubber and had the glass shop intall it. Still ended up costing a little over $200 for everything.

Haven't checked lately but I think the new windshields have come down some.

I lost the price paid for mine in a computer crash, but I think it was around $300 installed (I provided the new gasket). I specifically requested and received a Pilkinton windshield. They are of the highest quality and fit like an original. Be very cautious of the blended windshields (the type with the blue band across the top). On many of the offshore brands (which most of the blended windshields are) the glass is much thinner than OEM and doesn't fill the gasket cavity, causing leaks. Also the blended band is suppose to entice the buyer like it's an upgrade, but many of these windshields have the band extending so far down from the top that it ends right in the line of sight, interfering with forward vision. I would call several local shops and get a quote. Pricing can vary widely.

Also, even for experienced glass men the 60-63 wrap around windshield is the most difficult to install I’ve ever encountered. Don’t be surprised if 2 or more guys are needed.

The '63 shop manuel calls for the windshield to be installed bottom first, but try as might we couldn't get it to install that way, it kept hitting the brow. So we finally ended up installing it top first. It took 3 of us and a lot of cursing but it finally went in. We paid $175 for the windshield and I picked it up at the local Pilkinton warehouse in Tampa. It has the tinting across the top and fit like a glove.

John T: that is very, very cheap. Did you go directly to Pilkington or whom did you go thru? How long ago was this?

I bought it about this time last year from a guy selling on ebay. Called him first before buying it and he said he was a dealer in OR and that instead of shipping it I could just drive over to Tampa and pick it up at their warehouse. I was a little skeptical but for $175 I took a shot – besides with PayPal you can always get your money back. I had to wait in line with all the other windshield repair companies (funny how they all buy their windshields from the same place). When it was my turn they brought it out, put it on the inspection table, noticed a slight scuff mark on it (their eyes were a lot better than mine ‘cause I couldn’t see what they were talking about), they buffed it up and out I carried it. I did have to bring my own blankets to wrap it in.

Yes I have gone thru him/Pilkington before but his price for that windshield is much higher now.

Thanks for the info . Around here it is tough to get good windshields unless you give them your fist born and she is getting married next month.
