I pulled my old beaten up instrument panel and am restoring. I need to know which bulbs (oil, generator, temp, etc.) have one or two wires coming from the bulb socket.
Secondly, I am assuming when the headlights are on, the panel will light with the single wire bulbs.
Lastly, I have a light right under my fuel gauge. What does that represent? Does anyone have a picture of what the original panel looked like?

Do you have the dummy lights or the gauges? There were two types.

dummy lights

the little light under your fuel gauge (green) is a turn signal indicator. It blinks to show that the signals are on either left or right. You are correct about the instrument panel lights. They are the grey wires that are single. If the park lights or headlights are on the will come on. you can adjust strength of the lights by turning the dimmer switch (headlight switch) to the left or right. All the way to the left will turn the dome light on. I have a nice unit that came out of my 63, which is the same if you need a better cluster, minus the fuel guage. Just let me know. I can send pics if you need. Or you can do a wire conversion and swap in a set of the factory guages, which will give you a more accurate reading of the engine.

Turn signal is two wires, 1 is dark blue and ill have to look the up tonight when I get home. Do you have the factory assembly manual? It has a complete set of the wiring diagrams...well worth the $30-$40 that the book sells for. It covers every area of the truck mechanically/electrically.

yes i have it. i looked through it but of course there is no rhyme or reason to what order they placed the pages in. i'll go through it again.

Got most of my headlight switch together today. I am most proud of myself. Had to start laughing when the headlights, taillights and instrument panel lit up. Very Fun!
Only one issue, my parking lights do not go on at all. This is a link to the switch I'm using...

Have you checked the flasher? Might get the volmeter out and see if what your getting at the switch and the lights themselves.

sometimes the hood lights dont get a good ground because the hole is painted, i pulled mine and scraped the edge of the hole,

Finally got the lights to work. DThela you were right...a bad ground. However, I used brand new sockets, brand new bulbs, everything is identical on each side. One side shines brighter than the other...significantly brighter. Is it the quality of my ground?

If you have one light dimmer than the other then you most likely still have a ground issue. You have to clean all paint and oxidation from around the light socket holes in order to get a good ground. I have had to clean mine a couple of times since I've owned it. I finally ended up using an anti corrosive paste for electrical connections. I don't remember what it was called. I'm sure someone here knows. Any way it worked well and I didn't have to worry about it anymore.
