I'm hoping someone can help me. I had no lights working what so ever on my 1954 Chevy truck when i got it. The light switch was completely rusted up so i replaced it with one of the universal ones for the stovebolts. Does anyone know where i can find a wiring diagram for the universal? They say it works with some changes to the wiring, as there are less terminals that there where on the original. Also, I found the tail and brake light fuses on the firewall, but i have no headlights, park, etc. Is there another fuse block somewhere?

If the "universal" did not come with installation instructions and/or letter-labels near attachment screws, you might want to contact the seller to ask if they have information.

Here is a 1954 wiring diagram that should show you the wire colors for the different circuits that are wired through the light switch.

It looks like most of the circuits that go through the light switch are protected by a circuit breaker inside the light switch.

Should be able to figure it out with a continuity tester (multi-meter).

I also have a 54....double check the wire connections on the inner fender on both sides.
On the drivers side.. the wires from the light switch will terminate on the inner fender torwards the front at a multi-connector terminal ( can't remember the real name). Then a separate length of a wire bundle will attach to the terminal go across the radiator area to the passenger inner fender to another multi terminal. Wires go from the terminals to parking lights and headlights on both sides.
Make sure there is a good ground.

If you need to replace the wiring harness...Chevy classics has one for about $ 150.00...very easy to install, all wires marked. When done you'll know wires are good and you won't have to worry about faulty previous Owner makeshift wiring....
