I'm unsure if the fiber one is still available new, but it will have a somewhat quieter operation.

My '54, 235 has an aluminum gear and I didn't notice any excessive noise with it. According to the original owner of the truck the engine had never been apart.

I knew the aluminum one was, as I had mine replaced when the new cam was put in. I'll admit, I never really noticed any difference in noise in any of the 235s or 216s that I've tinkered with.
