I just put my parking brake back together and it won't work. I took it off again, stretch the spring alittle, filed the edge of the cinch bar..put it all back together and it won't bite. I made sure there was nothing around the spring. I do had a pad and carpet...will that effect the cinch tightness? The curved bar goes thru the cinch rod, thru spring,washer,leather spacer the thru the rubber bumper warped washer and cotter pinned.Doesn't look like rocket science but it has me stumped.

Sounds like you have an older truck, but with my 55.2 I had to tighten the brake pads. If they are very loose the the e-brake won't work. Do you find the pull on the lever quite long? Mine is very short now that it works.

Jo, I have just completed a complete brake system rebuild. The parking brake is tight.

My pedal kept popping off and I discovered that if I pushed the release handle in at the same time as I was depressing the brake it would stay in place.

You mean push release towards the firewall,to lift the lower part of the biting part higher off the floor...I'm on duty for 2 days..buy I will try when I get home...I can't stand when stuff doesn't work right for no apparent reason.
