Hello,
I have a 1972 Chevy 4x4 with original top loader 4-speed(granny gear) that is stuck in neutral. Went to shift from 2nd to 3rd last week....went into neutral and that was it!!

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Steve in I-DA-HO

Sounds like the shifter broke off. If you push down on the collar and turn it you can lift the shifter out and take a look. Don

Got the shifter out and it is not broke. I can see where it sets in the little slots. Any other suggestions? Is it possible that the pressure plate collapsed and it is stuck in neutral? Thanks, Steve

Take a big screwdriver & put it in the hole & down into the opening in the rails. The slots. If it is in neutral all the slots should be lined up. Try to move one of the rails with the screw driver. Each on should go forward & back one at a time. 2 rails cannot be moved forward or back when another is.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.
