Spent part of yesterday and today chasing down some electrical gremlins.

The alternator quit working. Got that replaced with a one wire unit.

The turn signals and all the lights in back had quit working. Found a bad connection. Also found one of the parking light bulbs was back feeding, making the turn signal light up when the parking lights were turned on. Also ran a ground wire from the truck frame in back to the frame of the (tilt) bed. That took care of the lights in back.

The joys of rust and corrosion on 60+ year old equipment!! ohwell

Then spent some time getting it cleaned up, as it's going in a parade tomorrow.

While waiting for parts to come in to finish Jaunita..I finally finished the wooden side rails. Looks good, can't wait till I have the vineyard logo painted on the door and the wine barrel in the bed on it's side, cut in half & hinged for a took box.
Just wanted to share...see pics below if you would like.
Thanks

I replaced the choke and throttle cables today. The choke cable was easy since it was still hooked up, but the throttle cable wasn't hooked up. I couldn't find where the throttle cable attaches to the throttle lever on the back of the carb.

The throttle cable goes through the hole in the throttle rod where there is probably a cotter pin now. Then a little chilibob goes on the cable below the throttle rod.

The chilibob.

Busted out the paint stripper and got the drivers side of the bed stripped.
There were a few layers of paint, and it took a couple of applications.
The metal does look really good,no holes thankfully!

I'll try and get it primed up tonight,it's been pretty damp/humid here recently,so I don't want flash rust to form....

That's exactly it! No chilibob, just a cotter pin. Does anyone still use the throttle cable, should I just leave it disconnected?

I have my throttle in place, handy when PTO work is involved.

Today I found a pair of seatbelts out of a 1987 Chevy pickup. Will be putting them in the panel.

I got my frame painted! I used flat black Chassis Saver. If you brush the flat black on it comes out streaky. It does say that in the instructions which I didn't read. I've used the gloss black before and that goes on great with a brush. So I scuffed up the 1st coat and sprayed the 2nd and it turned out real nice!

I added a a amber marker light as a turn signal at the rear end, eliminating several problems I have been having with the horrible wiring. Now stop, tail, and turn have their own filaments. I like how it looks, and am thankful it works well.

Installed a repro (nice one) condensor tank, every time I parked after a drive the radiator would bleed a tiny bit of coolant well the can solved that.

I did some touch up painting on the bed and painted the front splash panel. I wired the horn and ran the AC/heat vent cable. Now the AC is set, I just have to run the wire to the compressor. This weekend will be a busy time around the old garage here.

Checked with my mechanic to see if the panel passed the safety check, he said I can pick up the certificate on Saturday. I just need to get the speedo working but he said he would overlook that as long as I will get to it soon.

Installed the drivers side mirror, and replaced all the door panel bolts with stainless dipped in oil (I had a time getting the original ones out...) The mirror is the most chrome I have on the truck lol

I had to pull out the speedometer drive gear. That meant pulling off the torque tube. The drive gear is all mashed from someone putting in the wrong speedo gear, funny what damage a 12 tooth gear will do when you need a 13 tooth gear.

I also picked up the new license tag, so I am officially road legal, small consolation when my truck is on the hoist sans transmission.

Got the driver side rear fender stripped and primed, the LH bed side stripped, primed and painted.

Measured clearances three times for my new wheels before I order them tomorrow(Monday)as I got the go-ahead from the 'Boss.'

I'm going for these in 18x8" with 235/45x18 rubber.

What do you think?

Jim,I lubed my stainless bolts with a copper based grease when I was assembling my truck.
Stainless bolts can gall the threads when screwing them into mild steel captives etc.
Don't ask how I found that one out......

I removed the spark plugs to put in penetrating oil.

I found #3 plug covered with rust. It may have had a blown head gasket when it was parked in 1965.

Jock, I think they look good. Sort of reminds me of the old Cragar mags from "way back when" and it also reminds me some of the S-10 wheels I have on the 37. You ever think of looking at the S-10? They have several "mag" type wheels depending on years and may save you some money.....oh, I forgot that the "boss" gave you the go ahead. Hurry, before she changes her mind smile

Alvin I don't know if you saw the UK prices for the Rocket wheels, I wanted a similar size Cragar 5 spoke and they want nearly £400GBP a corner!
And that didn't include rubber!
I can't go smaller than 17" diameter due to the lowered spindles.

I chose the grey for a slightly more retro look, and bear in mind as S-10s never made it over here so the wheel vendors don't really cater for them.

Update; I ordered the 2 rear wheels today,I wasn't totally convinced the 8" wide rims will fit the front so i'll try on one of the rears before I buy the fronts.
There's a 7" wide wheel available if I have any issues with the 8"s.

I also got the left rear fender painted and started cleaning up the bedside strips.
Turns out they're not nearly as bad as I thought.I might be able to save them.
