I never realized that it took 5-10 minutes to get up off the floor. BUT, I did get about 98% of the welding done on the front suspension cross member. Gotta weld a few small places, grind down & re-weld any bubble gum looking garbage that might be there. Then the rear suspension goes back under it. I SEE PROGRESS  ...joe Joe it seems as we get older our work periods get shorter and our rest periods get longer. lol

Got that replaced with a one wire unit. The turn signals and all the lights in back had quit working. Found a bad connection. Also found one of the parking light bulbs was back feeding, making the turn signal light up when the parking lights were turned on. Also ran a ground wire from the truck frame in back to the frame of the (tilt) bed. That took care of the lights in back. The joys of rust and corrosion on 60+ year old equipment!! There were a few layers of paint,and it took a couple of applications.
The metal does look really good,no holes thankfully!
I'll try and get it primed up tonight,it's been pretty damp/humid here recently,so I don't want flash rust to form....

If you brush the flat black on it comes out streaky. It does say that in the instructions which I didn't read. I've used the gloss black before and that goes on great with a brush. I wired the horn and ran the AC/heat vent cable. Now the AC is set, I just have to run the wire to the compressor. This weekend will be a busy time around the old garage here.

The drive gear is all mashed from someone putting in the wrong speedo gear, funny what damage a 12 tooth gear will do when you need a 13 tooth gear.

Measured clearances three times for my new wheels before I order them tomorrow(Monday)as I got the go-ahead from the 'Boss.' I'm going for these in 18x8" with 235/45x18 rubber. What do you think?

Stainless bolts can gall the threads when screwing them into mild steel captives etc. Don't ask how I found that one out......

I found #3 plug covered with rust. It may have had a blown head gasket when it was parked in 1965.

Sort of reminds me of the old Cragar mags from "way back when" and it also reminds me some of the S-10 wheels I have on the 37. You ever think of looking at the S-10? They have several "mag" type wheels depending on years and may save you some money.....oh, I forgot that the "boss" gave you the go ahead. And that didn't include rubber!
I can't go smaller than 17" diameter due to the lowered spindles.
I chose the grey for a slightly more retro look,and bear in mind as S-10s never made it over here so the wheel vendors don't really cater for them.
Update; I ordered the 2 rear wheels today,I wasn't totally convinced the 8" wide rims will fit the front so i'll try on one of the rears before I buy the fronts.
There's a 7" wide wheel available if I have any issues with the 8"s.

Turns out they're not nearly as bad as I thought.I might be able to save them.
