For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 100 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 100 | I had to replace the 3spd transmission in the 1940 Chevy Super Deluxe Conv... I always have a few used ones around(along with everything else...) and I installed a 3 spd with the words, "Rockford McGurk 009 Special" painted on the bottom. The result was unbelievable. 1st seemed higher, second pulled like a team of clydesdales and 3rd "feels" slightly overdrive...
What the hell is this? Possibly a Frank McGurk modified? Any one ever hear of this?
Scratchin' my head with a big grin, Andy

I have an old California Bill book that recommended using a Lincoln Zephyr transmission for the gear ratios, perhaps it is one of those? Does it have a standard GM bolt pattern?

Thinkin' about how nice it would be behind the 261 :p

Smooth as heck and it has a much shorter throw, so to speak... like it has a short shift kit. I really want to figure out exactly what it is... Josiah, I'm just about ready to start restoration of the '53 3100 shop truck with a '61 261. What, if any, mods did you make on your motor?

I need to rebuild it- it smokes a bit and has a lot of gasket leaks. It is still makes good power, though.

Both are designed for open drivelines. | | | | | Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 100 Wrench Fetcher | | Wrench Fetcher Joined: Jun 2004 Posts: 100 | Still has the torque tube... I think it has been modified. I may just pull it out and disassemble to see what we have here. Thanks guys!
