quarter, The quick answer is yes, as long as the engine is setup for the same voltage as the starter you're going to use. The two different voltage starters use different flywheels [ different number of teeth], hope that helps. | | |

Look in the Tech Tips for the 216 to 235 swap. 3B is correct about the flywheel. You will need a 139 tooth flywheel from your 216. Check out a prior posting I made on this topic

I had a machinist grind down the 261 flywheel so it fit the '50 ring gear and it worked out great. I kept the 261 flywheel so I wouldn't have to give up the 11" HD clutch.

#75672 04/01/2007 4:31 AM | Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 513 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Feb 2007 Posts: 513 | i bolt a 56 chevy 235 starter on my 216, i changed over to 12 volt,(was screwing off one day and cracked my starter houseing) i never changed the fly wheel, had no problem it works and has been that way for 3 years. and i know the starter i messed up was the original, as is my motor
