I wouldn't drive it with only one mount in the front - also looks like the fan may be too far back from the rad, if so it'll overheat

I can do that, just need a little encouragement and advice, and surely somebody on this site has a solution, or at least an idea. ; ) optimistically, dne' http://vi.ebaydesc.com/ebaymotors/w...y=5348&bv=msie&sd=1&caz.html | | | | | Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 Cruising in the Passing Lane | | Cruising in the Passing Lane Joined: Jul 2001 Posts: 3,887 | the solution for fixing hashed non-original modifications is pretty much a one-off deal that depends on your skills, knowledge and material at hand, I don't recall anyone here ever discussing installing a 230 or 250 into a task force series truck can't really tell from your picture just what's there, but the 230 may be designed for a mount plate across the front that mounts to the frame at 2 points, or maybe at one center point .... my advice is to check around wrecking yards to find a truck with a 230 and get the correct mounts for it and work away at doing whatever it takes to adapt them to the 59 frame .... the original 59 engine mounted off the sides near the front, into the large hole visible under the alternator in your 1st pic, a hole must have been drilled for that single mount bolt, maybe his drill bit broke  Bill | | | | | Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,199 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2000 Posts: 5,199 | Just go buy some small block Chevrolet mounts. The 230 fits in the same frame as the newer style small blocks, not the old front mounts type. It should be a easy fix with frame rail mounts.

I didn't do it, but I'm going to play with it for a little while as it is my project. I'll have my eyes open for an exceptional deal on a V8/AOD in the not so distant future. I can mig weld, stick weld, braze, use an oxycetelne rig like no ones business. I do my own paint n body work, however I didn't paint this truck). If I ask a question, I'm seeking sound answers to help me, and I find my questions pertinent to the problems at hand. They are a good dependable engine & knock about 200 lbs. off the front of the truck. I agree with Joe. You can put a univerasal crossmember in it & use the factory type mounting. Everything will be there if you decide to go to a V-8, but you may like it the way it is after you work out the bugs.

Bill | | | | | Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 7 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Jun 2011 Posts: 7 | Hi! sorry if I sounded a little huffy earlier  I don't want to give ya'll the impression of being a butthead! lol I'm very friendly and like Casper the friendly Ghost, I just want to make friends! ; ) I had a talk with my husband over dinner a little bit ago, and I told him, in order to put AC/PS on this 230 is going to be difficult, look strange, only to later install a V8/AOD would be kind of dumb, and not a wise choice by any means. He kind of gave me the OK to do what I want(within reason monetarily). I think I may have my '57 Belair sold(I hope I hope), then I'll have the funds to talk to my engine builder to see what he can come up with. He should be able to build me a sbc for a reasonable amount, then find a AOD (700r?)or whatever everyone is doing. Then once the motor is out, I can redo the engine bay. Of course one thing always leads to another in sequences/opportunity to upgrade while the motor is out>Power steering gear/steering column,ie.. So, maybe this would lower the front end just a tad? I had installed a 2" lift in the rear; I thought it sat a little low. I don't want a low rider. Chuck the truck's 52 Chevy Now of course that is the previous generation of truck but the same motor mount problems would be there. He had a very extensive set of photos and explanations on his webshots. If you want something cool with good power, stick a 292 in it with overdrive, how many of them have you seen? Or update the 230 with a 250 crank and pistons for a 250 cubic inch engine. The 230 is on the small side, but still better then late model V8!

If your determined to install a SBC in your TF then give a look to the factory crate motors as they have something there for everyones price and requirements. Most have a factory warranty from GM that is hard for the local guy to compete with. Being the StoveBolt Page we are naturally predjudiced towards inline 6's but it is your truck and we support doing it your way.
