Its way too long and actually hits the bottom of the pan before going in all the way. Want to know how long the correct one is. Can someone measure it from say the part that sits on the tube to the very end and from the very end to the low and full marks?

My tube is 7 1/4 long from the block upwards ... Same 58-62 vintage engine ... Block cast # 3769716 ...

However, the tube that the dipstick goes into may have been replaced or driven into the block deeper or shallower than standard and will not necessarily register the oil level correctly. The safer course of action is to drain your oil and add 5 quarts of fresh oil. Where the top of the oil sits is your full mark. You could also stop at 4 quarts and mark I quart down.
I am using a stock dipstick and adjusted the tube (a piece of brakeline) length to correctly measure the oil level according to the dipstick.

Like mentioned, the best will probably be to fill it up to 5 quarts, mark low then top it off to 6 and mark full. Do I need to confirm what pan I have or would they all be the same regardless of what the engine came from?
Newbie question, what weight and brand oil works good in these engines? Again, mine is a 30psi pressure lubed 235 from what I can tell. There is an oil pressure gauge in the original cluster hooked to the engine that reads around 30psi.
