While turning the ignition switch on and off checking voltages here and there I noticed smoke coming from the resistor on the fire wall. The key had only been on for a few seconds (less than 20) and I shut the key off. Could this be due to the fact there is debris inside (i.e. spider-webs and dirt) or is the resistor bad or do I have something hooked up wrong? I Have not tried to start the truck so I do not know if it will or will not at this time I am only trying to figure this wiring out. Your help is greatly appreciated.

I wasn't sure since I am hooking things up that were never in place when we got the truck. I was trying to figure out how to do the resistor by-pass circuit on a modern starter solenoid and a push button starter.So it was entirely possible that I got something screwed up.

The one marked "S" gets the voltage from the push button, and the "R" terminal goes to the downstream side of the resistor or the + terminal of the coil.(Different ends of the same wire) The only time the "S" terminal of the solenoid gets battery voltage is during cranking, when the solenoid is pulled in and supplying current to the starter motor.

Thanks that is how I have it hooked Up, I guess my confusion is does the violet wire go on the s or r terminal? I'm guessing s since I do not believe there was an r terminal on the old stomp starter.
