Put it in place and could finger tighten the bolts until they were seated. There was a bit of tension on the pump from the diaphram lever. Took forever to start and when it did there was a loud "whomp-whomp" sound from the engine.
I figure installing the pump is fairly simple but is it? Is it possible the lever is on the wrong side of the came lobe or is that impossible. Did one once before on a 216 and it was fine. The resistance you feel depends on the position of the cam. You a good light and an inspection mirror you may be able to see the lobe. The pump lever rides on top of the concentric doesn't it? If pumps on the downward stroke of the diaphragm which equates to an upward push on the lever. You couldn't get an upward push with the lever under the cam. Or is my ancient gray matter failing me again.

really like the stovebolt site. not the sharpest file in the drawer when it comes to computors. better at rebuilding parts. hope im in thanks guys rodC66

Then I happened to find a picture in the Chilton's book showing the fittings on top of the pump, instead of on the bottom like a V-8. Oops! I'd been installing it upside-down.
Don't know about the older 6's...
