For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 18 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 18 | I've been rebuilding my 55 2nd series from ground up and finally have it to a point where I can start, shift and hopefully drive down the street however no clutch! There is little resistance in the clutch pedal and when I slowly try and shift into gear when the engine is running, the clutch is not disengating the transmission so lots of grind. I've put a new clutch setup in the truck but it is original style 3 speed manual. New everything on the truck. I can see the fork move in/out and separate the pressure plates when I depress the pedal but I'm surprised at the lack of resistance. Would appreciate any feedback. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall | | Moderator: Welcome Centre, Southern Bolters, Legion Hall Joined: Dec 2001 Posts: 14,522 | ...the first question is always "is the clutch in with the correct side toward the flywheel? | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 159 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 159 | when I had my 55 Chevy I would stick it in second then down to first never had a problem

To free up try to start in gear with the clutch pedal pushed in. SAFTY NOTE: 1, Have working brakes, 2, the truck WILL lurch forward or back depending on what gear selected so make sure you have lots of space in the front and back of the truck. Another method is to put the rear axel on Good jack stands with tires clear of the ground, start in gear, push the clutch pedal in, and hold it in, and apply the brakes.
Keep the 216's running. 1949 1/2 ton model #1314 (US 3104) Brian

I dropped the tranmission and clutch to start over. pressure plate is facing right direction (it will only install in one direction) but good to check. Made sure clutch fork is on the throwout bearing correctly, reinstalled everything and toqued it up correctly. I even adjusted the rod all the way out to give the clutch the maximum amount of movement. However, I'm having the same problem. This is the correct clutch assembly (got it from LMC Truck). I'm scratching my head. Wasted 2 hours doing all this yesterday.
I will try Hippy's feedback this morning and see if that free's it up.
Longbead, just to double check, would you have a picture of what you are describing on the throwout bearing? I believe I have it correct.
Thank you all. Keep your fingers crossed. | | | | | Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,961 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Jan 2008 Posts: 4,961 | You say the pressure plate is installed correctly. What about the disc? That is the part that can be installed a right and wrong way. If you have the hub towards the engine, it won't work. | | | | | Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 18 New Guy | | New Guy Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 18 | | | |
